badgelogo.JPGAnother slip from the Reds! This time a loss away to an average Newcastle side. The loss was not deserved (Craig Bellamy’s terrific efforts should have been rewarded with a win at the least!), but Liverpool never really played as best they could, and similar repetitive performances are what will separate Liverpool from the super-teams. Man. Utd., Chelsea, and Arsenal were all victorious this weekend and so the status quo renders 2 distinct battles; one between Man. Utd. and Chelsea for the title, the other between Liverpool and Arsenal for the automatic Champions League spot!

badgelogo.JPGAfter five consecutive wins in the premiership,
Liverpool’s winning streak comes to a halt. The Reds were uneasy all throughout the game and given that, in addition to Everton’s brave performance, a point isn’t as bad as it seems. It’s good that Arsenal slipped up as well but the top two continue to cruise, as usual!
Liverpool have to draw up a foolproof plan to keep up the good work now. With no new major signings to boost the team, Rafa Benitez has to work on keeping third place in the premiership and going as far as he can in the Champions League.

badgelogo.JPGI only got to see the first half of the game, a dull 0-0 draw. But I was duly relieved the next day when I saw the final score. 2 goals from the strikers won Liverpool an important game that will increase the pressure on the top two, hoping that they’ll slip up soon. It also keeps a distance (however small it is) from an in-form Arsenal side (a form I don’t think will be maintained!). Next up, the Liverpool Derby!

badgelogo.JPGThere is no better morale booster than beating the defending champs, especially for Liverpool, who have built a special rivalry with Chelsea since both Rafa Benitez and Jose Mourinho took charge. It all began when Liverpool beat Chelsea in the famous champion’s league clash in 2005, but since then, Chelsea have had the lion’s share of victories in the premiership. Therefore, this victory’s benefits are twofold: 1- It presents little hope of salvaging any titles this season (very little hope) and 2- It proves the fact that the Liverpool-Chelsea clashes will continue to be thrillers and not one sided games.

The game was terrific with 2 early goals sealing it once and for all. Although Chelsea had their problems, it was clear that Liverpool were the dominant team all throughout. The game presented Jermaine Pennant with his first Liverpool goal, and what a goal it was! Another good fact is that Dirk Kuyt scored as well, it is finally a fact that the strikers are scoring regularly, hopefully putting an end to a big problem Liverpool had to put up with early in the season!
